Dental hygiene and your oral health

Aubrey Family Dental provides patients with regular preventative cleanings that help keep plaque and bacteria out of your mouth so your teeth, gums and breath feel clean and healthy. Our hygienists and Dr. Caroline Tran will be happy to assist you with your hygiene needs.

Is a dental cleaning really needed?

Even with a proper routine of brushing and flossing, most people will slowly begin to build plaque  and tartar in parts of their mouth that are difficult to clean. A hygiene professional uses tools like mirrors and bright lights to help clean out those hard to reach places.  While doing the cleanings, it is also important to look for signs of decay or gum disease, so that any problems can be taken care of before they become more serious.

We recommend that all patients receive a cleaning every 6 months. Not only does it help to keep your mouth healthy as mentioned above but also helps keep your smile whiter and brighter.

What happens during a regular cleaning?

We try to clean the teeth and gums in order to prevent the formation of cavities and also to prevent gum disease. We use brushes, pastes and other tools to remove hard plaque from your teeth that is usually not removed from brushing. This is done section by section and as the hygienists cleans, they will provide tips for how you may be better able to brush or floss at home to prevent build-up or staining of your teeth.

Cleaning is a judgement-free process that we hope helps keep your mouth at its best. After the removal of plaque and bacteria, we then polish with a paste that helps remove mild surface stains and also tastes minty fresh!
